The Importance of Die Clearance in Stamping Processing
Stamping is a common forming technique in the field of metalworking. It deforms the material plastically by applying pressure to get the desired shape and size of the part. And in this process, the importance of die clearance cannot be ignored.
Mold clearance is simply the gap between the convex die and the concave die of a mold. The size of this gap directly affects the quality of the finished product and productivity.
If the gap is too large, although it can reduce mold wear and prolong the life of the mold, but it will lead to a decline in the accuracy of the finished product, surface roughness increased.
Conversely, if the gap is too small, although it can improve the accuracy of the finished product and reduce the generation of burrs, but it will increase the wear and tear of the mold, resulting in shortening the life of the mold, and may even cause the mold to rupture.
How to choose the right mold clearance? This needs to be decided according to the specific processing conditions and material properties.
First, the thickness of the material needs to be considered. Generally speaking, the thicker the material, the larger the required mold clearance.
Secondly, the strength and hardness of the material needs to be considered. For materials with high strength and hardness, a larger mold clearance should be selected in order to reduce mold wear.
Finally, the precision requirements of the product need to be considered. If the product precision requirements are high, then a smaller mold clearance should be selected.
In actual production, the choice of mold clearance also need to take into account other factors. For example, if the use of high-speed stamping, due to the faster flow of material in the mold, so you need to choose a larger mold clearance to reduce mold wear. Another example, if the use of hot stamping, due to the material in the high temperature is prone to oxidation, so you need to choose a smaller die clearance to reduce the production of oxide skin.
Die clearance also affects other properties of the finished product. For example, if the mold clearance is too large, it may cause the finished product to increase the curvature, affecting its assembly performance. For example, if the mold clearance is too small, it may cause residual stresses inside the finished product, affecting its performance.
The selection of the die clearance is a task that requires comprehensive consideration of many factors, and requires extensive experience and professional knowledge. Only in this way can we ensure the quality and efficiency of stamping processing and meet the demand of products. Die clearance plays a vital role in stamping processing.
